Ridgewood runs on schedules. Early trains, travel sports, AP deadlines, aging parents in the next town over. From the outside, it looks organized. Inside, plenty of people are running on very little.
The concerns we hear from Ridgewood clients repeat. Sleep gets thin. The same argument plays out word for word. A marriage stays polite but feels distant. A teenager goes quiet. A parent starts to wonder whether helping an adult child has quietly become something else.
You do not need a crisis to justify a call. Most people who reach us are just tired of sorting it out alone.
We start by listening. Your first session is a conversation about what has been happening, what you have already tried, and what you want to feel differently about.
Our work is affirming and evidence-based. We look at patterns, emotions, relationships, and history rather than treating one symptom alone. Anxiety often sits next to conflict at home. Grief often sits next to anger.
Sessions run in person at our River Edge office or by telehealth for eligible clients throughout New Jersey, with evening availability.
We commonly work with:
Our founder and president, H. Craig Cutler, LCSW, NCPsy.A, is a licensed clinical social worker and certified psychoanalyst who has practiced in private for over 20 years. He trained at the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College and the New Jersey Institute for Training in Psychoanalysis in Teaneck, where he now supervises candidates and teaches on the working alliance.
He knows Ridgewood professionally, too. Earlier in his career, he served as assessment coordinator at the Renfrew Center in Ridgewood, specializing in eating disorders and complex trauma.
Alongside him, our staff includes master’s- and doctoral-level clinicians, both licensed and license-eligible, as well as supervised graduate trainees. Psychiatric consultation is available by referral from one of our clinicians. When you call, we match you with the therapist whose training fits your concern and your schedule. You can meet our team here.
We accept most insurance plans, including Aetna, AmeriHealth, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield, Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield, Beacon Health, Cigna, Health Net, Optum, United Healthcare, Tricare, Medicare, and Medicaid.
Your plan may cover services in full or in part. Call your insurer and ask about outpatient mental health benefits, your deductible, your copay or coinsurance, the covered amount per session, and whether your primary care physician needs to approve. Copays are due at the time of service, and you cover the portion your plan does not.
We also offer a sliding scale based on eligibility and scheduling availability. Details are on our fees page.
Whether your day runs through Van Neste Square, along East Ridgewood Avenue, or starts at the train station before sunrise, the office is close. From central Ridgewood, expect about 15 to 20 minutes (about 6 miles), heading east on East Ridgewood Avenue and turning onto Kinderkamack Road. We are at 852 Kinderkamack Road, Second Floor, River Edge. Telehealth covers the weeks when even that drive is too much.
You do not need the right words ready. One call is enough to start.
Call 201-885-3522 or fill in the contact form on this page, and we will follow up about scheduling and therapist availability.

Cost depends on your plan and your benefits. We accept many insurance plans, and sessions may be covered in full or in part. Ask your insurer about your deductible, copay or coinsurance, and coverage per session. Copays are due at the time of service. Sliding scale rates are available based on eligibility and scheduling availability.
Yes. Telehealth may be available depending on your location, therapist availability, licensing requirements, and clinical needs. Many Ridgewood clients mix the two, meeting in River Edge when they can and switching to video during busy stretches. If you prefer meeting in person every time, our office is a short drive east on East Ridgewood Avenue.
That depends on what you are bringing to therapy and when you are free. Our team includes master’s- and doctoral-level clinicians with different areas of training, led by founder H. Craig Cutler, LCSW, NCPsy.A. During your first call, we discuss your concerns and scheduling needs, then suggest a clinician. If the fit feels wrong, tell us.
It varies. Some people come for focused work on one issue over a few months. Others stay longer to address deeper patterns in relationships, mood, or self-esteem. In early sessions, your therapist works with you to set goals and a plan, then adjusts as things change. Progress looks different for every person.
Mostly conversation. You describe what brought you in, ask questions, and get a feel for the therapist. You share only what feels comfortable at that stage. By the end you should have a clearer sense of what the work might involve and whether this feels like the right place to continue.
