Privacy Is Usually the First Question in Alpine

Alpine is a small borough. Roughly two thousand people, a handful of streets, and a level of visibility that makes some residents hesitate before booking anything local.

That hesitation costs people years. A marriage stays quiet instead of honest. An executive keeps functioning at a high level while sleeping four hours a night. A family works around an adult child who has not moved forward since college.

Nobody here needs a lecture about self-care. What people ask for is a clinician who is competent, discreet, and far enough from the neighborhood that the appointment feels like your own business.

Our office sits in River Edge, not Alpine, and telehealth is available for eligible clients. Both keep the work out of your immediate circle.

How Sessions at Equality Mental Health Are Structured

How Sessions at Equality Mental Health Are Structured

We are a specialized psychotherapy practice serving Bergen County and Northern New Jersey. Intake starts with a conversation, not a checklist, so we can match you with a clinician trained in your specific concern.

Therapy here is not passive listening. Your clinician may challenge an avoidance pattern, trace a reaction back to its origin, or slow down a decision you feel pressure to make quickly.

We review progress with you rather than assume it. We set goals together and revisit them as circumstances change.

Alpine clients are seen by our River Edge clinical staff. The practice was founded by H. Craig Cutler, LCSW, NCPsy.A, a licensed clinical social worker and certified psychoanalyst with more than 20 years in private practice, trained at the New Jersey Institute for Training in Psychoanalysis in Teaneck.

Areas of clinical focus include:

  • Anxiety, panic, and depression in adults and adolescents
  • Emotionally distant or disconnected marriages
  • Infidelity, betrayal, and rebuilding trust
  • Trauma and EMDR treatment
  • Adults having difficulty moving toward independence
  • Family estrangement and parent-child conflict after divorce
  • Gender identity, LGBTQ2+, and neurodiversity affirming care

Four Concerns Alpine Residents Bring to Us Most

Anxiety and high-pressure stress. For professionals carrying constant demand, racing thoughts at night, and a sense of performing rather than living.

Couples counseling and infidelity recovery. For partners who have gone silent, and for couples deciding whether to repair the relationship or move in a different direction after a betrayal.

Trauma treatment and EMDR. A structured method that may reduce how immediate a distressing memory feels, whether the event was recent or long past.

Support for adult children and independence. For families where a capable young adult has stalled around work, school, or responsibility, and everyone disagrees about what would help.

Insurance, Fees, and Scheduling for Alpine Clients

  • Accepted plans. Aetna, AmeriHealth, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Beacon Health, Cigna, Empire BCBS, Health Net, Horizon BCBS, Medicaid, Medicare, Optum, Tricare, and United Healthcare.
  • Sliding scale. Reduced fees are available based on ability to pay, eligibility, and scheduling availability.
  • How billing works. Co-pays are due at each session, and you pay whatever portion your plan does not cover. Confirm your outpatient behavioral health benefits and deductible before the first visit.
  • Out of network questions. If you plan to file for reimbursement yourself, ask your insurer what they pay out of network and what documentation they require.
  • Evening hours and telehealth. Useful for clients whose schedules do not allow a midday appointment.

Questions We Hear From Alpine Callers

Sessions are confidential and protected by law, with narrow exceptions your clinician explains at the outset, including risk of harm and certain legal requirements. We keep records to professional and regulatory standards. If you use insurance, your plan receives limited claim information. Ask about that before your first appointment if it matters to you.

Both. We accept most major plans and also see clients who prefer to pay directly. Coverage varies by policy, so confirm your deductible, network status, and per-session co-pay with your insurer. A sliding scale is available where eligibility and openings allow.

Plan on 20 to 25 minutes to River Edge, longer during rush hour on Route 4. Many clients schedule around school pickup or come straight from the city. When the trip is not workable in a given week, telehealth may be an option.

No clinician can promise that. Couples work can help both partners understand how the disconnection developed, address trust and accountability, and communicate more clearly. Some couples rebuild. Others reach a thoughtful decision to separate. The work aims for clarity, not a predetermined outcome.

You describe what brought you in, and your therapist asks about history, relationships, and what you want to change. You can ask about their training and experience with your concern. If a different clinician or level of care makes more sense, we will tell you.
